Mississippi Personhood Amendment

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.

So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

-plays catch up-

Day 11 – Final Fantasy game that disappointed you: Um. I hate to say it, but XIII kind of did. It's probably because of the hype it had, but it was just a letdown.

Day 12 - Final Fantasy game you’ve played more than 5 times.: Ugh. VII. I'm such a horrible fangirl.

Day 13 – Your favorite version of Cid: Highwind, I love you, I do... but my favorite Cid is Dr. Cidolfus Demen Bunansa from XII. He's so deliciously evil I love it.

Day 14 - Favorite Final Fantasy male character: I think it actually might be Basch fon Ronsenburg from XII. I'm a huge fan of the heroic archetype, and he fits all those qualities to a T.

Day 15 - Favorite Final Fantasy female character: Tifa Lockhart, hands down. She's just one of those girls that is a girl, but she can totally kick your ass. Runners up include Marlene, Yuffie, Rikku, Lightning, and Jihl.

Day 16 - Your favorite Final Fantasy limit break.: Omnislash. I'm a sucker for swords.

Day 17 - Favorite Final Fantasy mini game: Chocobo Breeding. I love them so much *U*

Day 18 - Favorite Final Fantasy opening sequence: VIII, hands down. Liberi Fatali is just... UGH. AMAZING.

Day 19 - Best Final Fantasy outfit: Jihl Nabaat from XIII. That coat is AMAZING.

Day 20 – Best Final Fantasy hair: Any hair in Dissidia that has the sissy beads in it. I LOVE THEM.

So behind on this meme. I should just keep doing three days at a time. lol.

Day 08 – Favorite Chocobo Version - The VII ones. It might be the way they dance on Disc 1, or it could be the fact that I spend a good portion of a month trying to get my Gold Chocobo. I was so invested in breeding them that I dreamed about it.

Day 09 - Favorite Moogle Version - That's easy. I absolutely LOVE the version from Dissidia. They're so adorable! I just want to squeeze them all like Terra did.

Day 10 – Best Final Fantasy scene ever - Ugh. I have to choose?

Hm. I think I just might list a couple.

VII - Cloud telling the group, right before they go fight Sephiroth, to find what they're fighting for. I always thought this was a pivotal point in Cloud's character development. It's also one of my favorite scenes, and just cements my Cloud/Tifa ship. Cloud sends everyone off, and they talk, and at one point, Tifa tells Cloud "There are other ways to show that you care for someone other than talking." ilu, Tifa.

VIII - Time Compression. I wasn't a big fan of VIII, but I loved this scene. Everyone's wandering around, and even in the end, Rinoa and Squall find each other. Eyes of Me comes on, and I'm all bawwww.

X - The Sending. While I agree with Amy on the truth of the Pilgrimage, this scene is my favorite. It was either this, the kiss at Macalania, or when Tidus leaves at the end. Or maybe Auron showing up and kicking ass in Luca. SO MANY CHOICES. But the Sending gave me goosebumps. And Tidus also finally seeing what Yuna has to go through, putting her own feelings aside to help everyone else.

XII - Gabranth dying on the Strahl. Now, I was not happy that Gabranth died. Not one bit. He was one of my favorite characters. [Gimme those twins any day.] It's the interaction between him, Basch, and Larsa that get me. Noah finally atones in the end, and Basch is there to see it. My heart, it weeps for them!

XIII - Lightning punching Snow. There are better scenes, trust me, like the train scene that totally alludes to VII, which I effing love. [sorry, Amy.] But Lightning punching Snow? I laughed so hard and reset the game like 6 times to watch it over and over.

I really hate insomnia. And I hate winter. I hate being away from my family.

Most of all, I'm hating my depression right now.
Whee, three days behind! go me!

Day 05 - Your favorite Final Fantasy City/Town - Hm. It's a tie between Wutai from VII, Rabanastre from XII, and Luca from X. Each has their own awesome qualities.

Day 06 – Favorite part of your favorite Final Fantasy game - getting Knights of the Round. I effing LOVE that materia. I totally go make a sandwich the first time I use it in every runthrough.

Day 07 - Least favorite part of your favorite Final Fantasy game - The Wutai subquest. I love Yuffie, I do. But going through Wutai and trying to chase her down? UGH.

Day 08 – Favorite Chocobo Version.
Day 09 - Favorite Moogle Version.
Day 10 – Best Final Fantasy scene ever.
Day 11 – Final Fantasy game that disappointed you.
Day 12 - Final Fantasy game you’ve played more than 5 times.

Day 27 – Best Final Fantasy storyline.
Day 28 - First Final Fantasy game obsession.
Day 29 - Current Final Fantasy game obsession.
Day 30 - Saddest Final Fantasy character death.
Wow. I'm already failing at this meme. So here's Day 3 and 4.

Day 03 – Your favorite Final Fantasy theme/song.

Wow. I have to choose? I've got so many. I'll just list my current favorites.

Those Who Fight Further (Boss Theme from Final Fantasy VII) - This song always gets me pumped. I almost always hum it if I'm doing something menial while at work [like folding panties], and it just makes it more epic. :)
Terra's Theme (Final Fantasy VI) - This piece is just... gorgeous. I've heard it live, and it gave me chills.
Theme of the Empire (Final Fantasy XII) - I don't know what it is about this piece. It could be the amazing horns in this piece, or just the rampant use of timpani. Everything in life needs more timpani.
Battle of the Four Fiends (Final Fantasy IV) - This song always makes me bounce.
Man with the Machine Gun (Final Fantasy VII) - Can't lie, this is pretty awesome.
Rose of May (Final Fantasy IX) - I'm not a big fan of IX, but I love this song.
The Promised Land (Final Fantasy II) - Gorgeous.
Aerith's Theme (Final Fantasy VII) - It makes me cry.
Dancing Mad (Final Fantasy VI) - It's the organ. Every time.

Day 04 - Your favorite Final Fantasy party from your favorite game.

From VII, it was always Cloud, Tifa, and Barret. When Cloud fell into the Lifestream, it was Tifa, Barret, and Cid. When Tifa left, it was Cid, Vincent, and Yuffie.

Day 2!

Day 02 - Your least favorite Final Fantasy game: I'm sorry to those who like them, but it's a tossup between VIII and IX. VIII had a good storyline and good characters, but poor execution. Plus, drawing magic? Really?

And IX... I still can't get over Kuja's thong.

Dec. 9th, 2010

Let's see if I can keep up with a meme for 30 days. This is stolen from renegadecoffee. The 30 day Final Fantasy meme!

Day 01 - Your favorite FF game - Unfortunately, like a lame fangirl, it's VII, hands down. It's the first one that I got really really into, even though I had played the others. Dissidia is followed at a close second, only because it brings all of the awesomeness together.

Hey guys, Christmas card time!

Gimme your addresses, and you'll get a card from me! COOL, RIGHT? EVERYONE'S DOING THIS.

Comments are screened!
I'm either getting sick, or it's my allergies. Possibly both considering the small feline running around my apartment.

Either way, I hardly got any sleep last night and I've gotta be at work in a half an hour.

A better update later.
